BIOGRAPHY

Seki Inagaki was born in Kuriyama, Hokkaido Prefecture, Japan, on 4 November 1906. In 1933, she moved to Bihoro with her husband. After World War II, they ran a futon shop and a rice milling business. The couple had five children (three sons and two daughters).

At the age of 105, she fell and hurt her back. She moved into a nursing home afterwards.

Seki Inagaki passed away in Bihoro, Hokkaido Prefecture, Japan, on 14 December 2018. At the time of her passing, she had more than 40 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

RECOGNITION

On 12 August 2018, following the death of 111-year-old Kiku Aoyama, she became the oldest living woman in Hokkaido Prefecture, and the second-oldest living resident, after Masazo Nonaka. Nonaka outlived her, so she never became the oldest living person in the Prefecture.

Her age was verified by Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare (MHLW), as well as Yu Li and Fumiyuki Yamaguchi, and validated by LongeviQuest on 26 May 2023.
