Sarah Patenaude-Bruyère was born in Russell, Ontario, Canada, on 20 February 1907. Her parents were Joseph Patenaude (1878–1967) and Marie-Louise Gibeault (1884–1966). She had at least six siblings: Joseph Euclide (1901–1989), Ferdinand (born 1903), Cécile (1904–2003), Irène Alice (born 1905), Marie Lucie (born 1910), and Isabelle (1913–2003).
On 22 October 1929, at the age of 22, she married Joseph Prosper Bruyère (1904–1986) in Embrun. The couple had seven children: Roger, Marcel, Raymond, Jean-Guy, Eléonore, Bernard, and Marie-Isabelle. At some point she became the teacher at the village’s one-room school.
Sarah Patenaude-Bruyère passed away in Gatineau, Quebec, Canada, on 17 February 2020, at the age of 112 years, 362 days.
Patenaude-Bruyère’s age was validated by the GRG on 8 May 2019.
Bruyère became the oldest known living person in Canada following the passing of 114-year-old Ellen Gibb on 5 June 2019. Upon her own passing, she was succeeded by Phyllis Ridgway.
