Maness was born in Asheboro, North Carolina, USA, on 16 March 1911, to parents Henry Carvey Burrow (1891–1984) and Martha Pearl “Mattie” Vestal (1890–1967). She grew up with her five sisters and three brothers.
At some point, she married Everette Maness, a brick mason, and they later had a son and a daughter. The couple managed a farm in Asheboro from 1947 until Everette’s passing in 1993. After his death, she maintained the farm on her own for over a year before moving to York County, Virginia, to live with her granddaughter, Debbie.
Maness was a devout woman, praying daily and ensuring she listened to the Bible on public news and Christian stations. Even at the age of 109, she still visited the beauty shop every week.
Maness passed away in Yorktown, Virginia, USA, on 1 June 2021, at the age of 110 years, 77 days. She was survived by her daughter Jacqueline, four grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren.
Her age has not been validated.
