BIOGRAPHY

Ruth Andreasen was born in Parkersburg, Iowa, USA, on 8 February 1903. Her parents were John B. Poppen (1871–1951) and Mary H. Johnson (1871–1958). Her father was born in Germany. She moved with her family to rural Stewartville at the age of six, where she attended the Waterloo one-room schoolhouse and later worked alongside her family on the farm.

Ruth was married on 28 March 1923, in Stewartville, to James George Andreasen (1890–1985). After their marriage, the couple farmed and raised their family in Pleasant Valley and High Forest Townships until retiring in 1969. They then moved into Stewartville, where she continued to reside. Her husband preceded her in death on 4 October 1985.

She was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Stewartville and was active in its United Methodist Women’s group. She also belonged to the Stewartville Home Economics Club. She especially enjoyed handiwork—particularly crocheting—as well as gardening and spending time with family and friends.
