Ruby Kimball was born in Rutledge, Morgan County, Georgia, United States on 23 March 1892, to parents John and Julia (née Wallace) Johnston. After attending school in Georgia, her family moved to New York.
At the age of 19, she married Charles Leverett Hayden, who died on 28 February 1940 at the age of 66. Nine years later, she married Henry Kimball, who had been serving as a judge in Jefferson County since 1930, before later being elected state Supreme Court Justice. He died on 19 January 1960, just 19 days after retiring.
From the time of her first marriage in 1940, she had resided in Hotel Woodruff, and continued to live there until it was demolished in 1975. In her later years, she moved into a nursing home.
She passed away in Watertown, Jefferson County, New York on 9 February 2005, at the age of 112.
