BIOGRAPHY

Ruby Clodfelter was born in McDowell, North Carolina, United States on 26 July 1905, as the daughter of Robert Lee and Lucy Roena Landis Daves. The middle child of seven, she had three brothers and three sisters. In 1929, she married Barney B. Clodfelter, and began working for Hanes Hosiery in 1935. Her husband died in 1971, following 42 years of marriage.

In 2001, aged 95, she moved into the Grace Ridge nursing home, where she resided for the rest of her life. At the time of her 110th birthday, she still did her own shopping and paid her own bills.

She enjoyed sweets and junk food, and didn’t abide by a specific diet throughout her life. She survived cancer, as well as heart problems that required two stents; on her 110th birthday, she credited her cardiologist for her survival. She was an avid viewer of NASCAR, and was a fan of driver Tony Stewart, whom she had hoped to meet. Although she had no children of her own, she had several nieces and nephews.

Ruby Clodfelter passed away in Morganton, North Carolina, United States on 19 November 2016, at the age of 111 years, 116 days. At the time of her death, she was the oldest living person in North Carolina.
