Rosa Jumel was born in Chazeaux neighborhood in the commune of Salettes in the Haute-Loire department, Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes, France, on 18 May 1912. In 1932, she married Marcel Jumel, and together they had four children (including a pair of twins), though by 2022, two had passed away. Widowed in 1980, she found comfort in knitting, walking, and spending time with family and friends who visited her.
In 2005, she moved to a nursing home in Joigny. Despite her hearing loss eventually limiting her ability to engage in conversation, she remained cheerful, especially when receiving flowers from the Le Hameau s’éveille association on her 110th birthday. At the age of 110, she had 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
Rosa Jumel passed away in Joigny, Yonne, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, France, on 12 November 2022, at the age of 110 years, 178 days.
At the time of her death, she was the oldest living person in Bourgogne-Franche-Comte and in Yvonne department in France.
Jumel’s age was verified by Cyril Depoudent and validated by the ESO on 8 June 2022.
