BIOGRAPHY

Rachel Jones was born in Bullock County, Alabama, USA, on 11 August 1903, as the youngest of six children to Joseph and Nellie Thrasher. She attended elementary school in Waugh until the eighth grade because her mother feared allowing young Rachel to walk the long distance to school alone. In her youth, she became a member of Peace Baptist Church.

At some point, she married Isaac Jones in Montgomery, Alabama. The couple had twins who died soon after birth. She attended St. James Missionary Church in the Waugh Community.

On her 111th birthday in 2014, Jones received letters from President Barack Obama and Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange. She celebrated her birthday at the Capitol Hill Healthcare Center. Sometime prior to moving there, she lived in Pike Road.

Her brother Rayfield Thrasher (4 September 1893 – 7 February 1999) lived to be 105 years, 156 days.

Rachel Jones passed away in Montgomery, Alabama, USA, on 7 December 2014, at the age of 111 years, 118 days.
