BIOGRAPHY

Philomène Fibleuil was born in Raisin, a rural district of Le Robert, Martinique, on 10 December 1912. she spent a large part of her childhood there. On 22 July 1937, she married Casimir Fibleuil. The couple had eight children. She worked as a market vendor and also assisted her husband on their farm.

Fibleuil was affectionately known as “Man Filo.” For her 100th birthday, she insisted on attending Mass at the Trinité charity center. Following the service, her family and friends gathered in the village of Tartane to celebrate the occasion. The elected officials from Le Robert’s social action center also honored her by presenting her with a bouquet and gifts. On her 108th birthday in December 2020, she was honored by the city of Robert. Elected officials Jules Maximin and Maryse Rangoly visited her home to present a gift on behalf of the municipal council. At the age of 109, she had 28 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

Philomène Fibleuil passed away in Le Robert, Martinique, on 11 June 2023, at the age of 110 years, 183 days.

RECOGNITION

On 23 September 2021, following the passing of 110-year-old Vincente Constance Newton, she became the oldest living woman in Martinique.

On 5 October 2021, Fibleul became the oldest known living person in Martinique, following the passing of 112-year-old Jules Theobald. Upon her own passing, she was succeeded by Marie-Dominique Zadick.
