BIOGRAPHY

Petronila Barbosa Vela was born in Chiclana de la Frontera, Andalusia, Spain, on 16 September 1908. She was the third of eleven siblings and reportedly came from a long-lived family, where even the youngest lived to the age of 85. She began working at the age of twelve, assisting a family with household chores after school.

Petronila Barbosa Vela passed away in Chiclana de la Frontera, on 13 January 2019, at the age of 110 years, 119 days.

RECOGNITION

On 21 May 2018, following the passing of 110-year-old Isabel Redondo Torres, she became the oldest (known) living resident of Andalusia, at the age of 109 years, 247 days. Upon her own passing, she was succeeded by Ángeles Morillas García (12 March 1909 – 28 January 2019) of Marchal.
