BIOGRAPHY

Green was born as Pauline Frances Warzeha in Waverly, Minnesota on 5 June 1893. She attended school in Waverly, and went on to work in a Minneapolis candy factory.

In 1916, Green relocated to Mandan, North Dakota, and found work at a telephone company. She married James L. Green on 15 January 1918 in Bismarck, North Dakota’s capital city. The couple had three children, Clifford, Geraldine, and Quentin – who died in infancy – while living on a farm north of Mandan. Green’s husband worked as a conductor with the Northern Pacific Railway; he died in 1979.

Green lived independently until her mid 90s, stopped driving aged 94, and later lived in an assisted living apartment until she was 101. At the age of 98, she performed a polka dance at her son Clifford’s golden wedding anniversary celebration – he died in November 2002 aged 81. Three weeks prior to her 110th birthday, she suffered a fall and broke her hip.

Green died in Mandan, North Dakota at the age of 110 years, 81 days. It was reported that she was 5 feet and 9 inches (175 cm) tall in her youth. She was survived by her daughter Geraldine, as well as eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
