Ollie Lawson was born in Thomasville, Georgia, USA, on 21 November 1913, to parents Jeff Glenn and Annie Belle Boone. She was one of seven siblings, with two sisters and four brothers. Growing up on a farm, she attended a segregated school. However, she left school after completing the sixth grade to help her family by working on the farm and taking on house cleaning responsibilities.
Upon turning 18, seeking greater opportunities, she to Miami, Florida. It was there that she met her future husband, Birden Lawson. They later married and had a daughter, Mildred. The Lawson family eventually moved to Bridgeport and later settled in Stratford, Connecticut. In her professional life, she worked as a nurse’s aide, dedicating herself to providing care and compassion to those in need. She was deeply devoted to her faith and community. During her time in Connecticut, she served as a deaconess at the First Baptist Church for 24 years. She was later an active member of Greater Shiloh Church.
Lawson passed away on 11 December 2024 in Easton, Pennsylvania, United States, at the age of 111 years, 20 days. She was survived by her daughter Mildred J. Carter, three grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 34 great-great-grandchildren, and 18 great-great-great-grandchildren.
