BIOGRAPHY

Nunna Moum was born as Edna Ellynore Moum Gunderson on 12 October 1915 in Arendal, Norway. She had an older sister and brother who, after she was born, called her “Skrapkaka”.

After graduating school, she moved to Oslo, planning on becoming an interior designer. However, due to the war, she ended up working in a shop and an office. During World War II, she lived at a women’s boarding house called Englehjemmet with Ruth Maier, famous Austrian Jewish writer and victim of the Holocaust. Nunna witnessed the Nazis take Ruth Maier away to Auschwitz, where she was later murdered. During the war, she lived in Oslo, where she met her husband Hans Moum. After marriage, they moved into a small apartment on Jacob Aalls street.

In the 1960s, her and her husband moved to Larvik where he had been appointed the customs chief. Edna was a stay-at-home mom for their two daughters and son. Hans died in 1980 from cancer.

Nunna Moum celebrated her 110th birthday in October 2025. She currently lives in a care home in Månejordet, Larvik, Norway.
