Noëlle Parron

BIOGRAPHY

Noëlle Parron was born in the commune of Le Chambon-Feugerolles in the department of Loire, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France, on 8 December 1912, an only child born to her parents. She lost her father when she was seven. He had returned from the First World War very ill, and despite efforts to treat him, they were unsuccessful. After his death, Noëlle remained with her mother until she left school at 14 and a half. She graduated with a diploma in shorthand typing and entered the workforce early.

Her first job was at the Firminy steelworks, followed by a year at the Despinasse company in Saint-Étienne. She later joined the Chambon-Feugerolles town hall, where she managed unemployment files, meeting with the unemployed twice a week. On 1 May 1933, she married a man from Aurec-sur-Loire and moved there. In 1934, she gave birth to her son and returned to work ten years later. With limited job opportunities in 1944, she took over the Café du Commerce, which she successfully ran for the next thirty years. She lived in her house until she was 106.

Parron celebrated her 110th birthday at the Les Tilleuls nursing home in Aurec-sur-Loire. She had no particular secret to longevity, aside from a life without alcohol or tobacco.

Noëlle Parron passed away in Aurec-sur-Loire, Haute-Loire, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, on 25 January 2023, at the age of 110 years, 48 days.
