Nobu Abe (Japanese: 阿部のぶ) was a Japanese supercentenarian who was the oldest living person in Aichi Prefecture at the time of her passing.

BIOGRAPHY

Nobu Abe (阿部のぶ) was born on February 3, 1900, in a mountain village in Mugi District, Gifu Prefecture, Japan. She was the sixth of eight siblings in a family with one son and seven daughters.

She married in Nagoya City during the Taishō era and gave birth to four sons. She later lived in cities such as Ōbu before settling in Tokai City, Aichi Prefecture. Around the age of 102, she moved into a nursing home, where she spent her later years.

At the age of 110, on days when she was feeling well, she enjoyed reading the newspaper and sharing stories about her youth, especially her memories of papermaking. Abe was known for her keen interest in fashion and beauty—each morning she would wrap her favorite scarf around her neck and carefully coordinate the colors of her hat and lap blanket.

Following the passing of Toki Takagi on October 12, 2009, Abe became the oldest living person in Aichi Prefecture.

She passed away from natural causes on September 27, 2010, at the age of 110 years and 236 days. After her death, Ken Ishikawa succeeded her as the oldest living person in Aichi Prefecture.

RECOGNITION

Her age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group on 23 October 2010 and later recognized by LongeviQuest.
