Nao Ikeda [Japanese: 池田直] was a Japanese supercentenarian.
BIOGRAPHY
Nao Ikeda (池田 直) was born in Susaki, Kochi Prefecture, Japan, on 7 December 1890. She raised two children. She remained active well into old age and was reportedly still working in the fields until around the age of 95. In 1992, at the age of 102, she moved into a nursing home.
At the age of 108, although weakened legs had left her dependent on a wheelchair, she remained cheerful and quick-witted. At the time, her family included one grandchild, two great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren. During a visit from the mayor, she reportedly amused those around her with a witty joke. At the nursing home, she was known for frequently expressing her gratitude by saying “Suman nō” (“Thank you” in the local dialect). She was also said to entertain staff and fellow residents by singing songs she had composed herself, making her a beloved figure within the facility.
Ikeda passed away from natural causes at a hospital in Susaki, Kochi Prefecture, Japan, on 10 June 2001, at the age of 110 years and 185 days. At the time of her death, she was the oldest living person in Kochi Prefecture.
RECOGNITION
Her age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group on 28 June 2012 and later recognized by LongeviQuest.
