BIOGRAPHY

Mollie Walker was born in Pencoedtre, Glamorgan, Wales, United Kingdom, on 5 February 1909. In 1923, her father left the military, and the family settled in Peppard. On her 17th birthday, she received her first car—a brand-new Austin 7.

In 1931, she married John Walker. The following year, the couple moved to Rotherfield Peppard, Oxfordshire. They had two children: a daughter, Sheila, and a son, Graham.

During World War II, she volunteered with the Women’s Voluntary Service (WVS), which later became the WRVS, and assisted at the American Army Hospital on Kingwood Common, where wounded German prisoners of war were treated. From 1954 to 1979, she served on the Peppard Parish Council, and her contributions to Civil Defence earned her the Order of the British Empire (MBE). Her husband passed away in 1991. She continued driving until the age of 103.

Walker passed away at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading, Berkshire, on 22 January 2022, at the age of 112 years, 351 days.
