Mizu Aizawa (Japanese: 相澤みづ) was a Japanese supercentenarian whose age has been validated by LongeviQuest.

BIOGRAPHY

Mizu Aizawa was born in Natori, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan, on 20 July 1913. She spent her entire life in Natori, where she gave birth to and raised nine children. On 11 March 2011, during the Great East Japan Earthquake, her home was swept away by a tsunami that reached a height of 9 meters in Natori. Fortunately, Aizawa was unharmed, as she was safely using a day service at a welfare facility at the time.

Although she was bedridden in her supercentenarian years, Aizawa continued to eat three meals a day and enjoyed engaging in conversations with the staff at her nursing home, even at the age of 111.

Mizu Aizawa was last confirmed alive on 31 January 2025, at the age of 111. She was a resident of Natori, Miyagi Prefecture.

RECOGNITION

On 28 October 2022, following the passing of Matsuyo Eda, she became the oldest living person in Miyagi Prefecture.

Her age was verified by Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare (MHLW), as well as Ryohei Asano and Yumi Yamamoto, and validated by LongeviQuest on 15 October 2024.
