BIOGRAPHY

Mizu Aizawa was born in Natori, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan, on 20 July 1913. She spent her entire life in Natori, where she gave birth to and raised nine children. On 11 March 2011, during the Great East Japan Earthquake, her home was swept away by a tsunami that reached a height of 9 meters in Natori. Fortunately, Aizawa was unharmed, as she was safely using a day service at a welfare facility at the time.

Although she has been bedridden in recent years, Aizawa continues to eat three meals a day and enjoys engaging in conversations with the staff at her nursing home, even at the age of 111.
