Misaho Hosokawa was born in Jōhana (now Nanto City), Toyama Prefecture, Japan, on 12 December 1908. She spent her entire life in Nanto City. She had children.
On 7 December 2007, just before her 99th birthday, she was congratulated by the mayor for turning 100 (according to the traditional East Asian age count). At that time, she lived at home with her eldest son and his family, attended day care centers twice a week, and enjoyed handicrafts such as origami and temari. She also liked to sing nursery rhymes out loud. The secret to her longevity was “not to worry too much.”
Hosokawa passed away of natural causes in a nursing home on 10 February 2019, at the age of 110 years, 60 days.
Hosokawa became the oldest living person in Nanto City in March 2016.
At the time of her passing, she was the second-oldest (known) living person in Toyama Prefecture, after Haru Mori.
Her age was verified by Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare (MHLW), as well as Ryohei Asano and Yumi Yamamoto, and validated by LongeviQuest on 27 June 2024.
