BIOGRAPHY

Matsue Kimura was born in Seidan (now part of the city of Minamiawaji), Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan, on 12 November 1906. At some point she married a farmer in Goshikicho Tsushimanzai, Sumoto City, and the couple had eight children.

Kimura sewed until she was around 100 years old. At the age of 105, she broke her leg and was unable to move without a wheelchair, so she moved into a nursing home. At the age of 110, the nursing home staff would occasionally drive her to the temple to visit her parents’ grave.

Kimura passed away in Sumoto, Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan, on 13 June 2018, at the age of 111.

RECOGNITION

In September 2014, Kimura was announced as the oldest living person in Sumoto City.

On 20 November 2016, eight days after her 110th birthday, she became the oldest known living person in Hyogo Prefecture following the death of 110-year-old Mitsu Yamakawa.

Upon her death, Hama Yasukawa succeeded her as Hyōgo Prefecture’s oldest living person.
