Masatake Kinoshita [Japanese: 木之下 正威] was a Japanese supercentenarian who was the oldest living person in Okayama Prefecture at the time of his death.
Masatake Kinoshita (木之下 正威) was born in Nara Prefecture, Japan, on August 20, 1897.
He reportedly worked for a food-related company and also ran a factory in Kobe, Hyōgo Prefecture. During the war, he evacuated to Okayama Prefecture and eventually settled in Kurashiki. According to his family, his longevity may have been influenced by his daily walks through mountain paths in his youth, which often covered several kilometers, as well as his moderate eating habits—he typically ate only until he was about 70% full.
At the age of 108, he was living at home with his eldest son and daughter-in-law and was using day care services. According to a report by Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare at the age of 109, he was described as cheerful and sociable, and he enjoyed playing shogi (Japanese chess), which was one of his daily pleasures.
Kinoshita passed away from natural causes at a hospital in Kurashiki City on July 17, 2008, at the age of 110 years and 332 days. At the time of his death, he was the oldest living person in Okayama Prefecture. Following his passing, Shitsuko Araki of Asakuchi City succeeded him as the prefecture’s oldest resident.
His age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group on 19 January 2008 and later recognized by LongeviQuest.
