Mary Johnson was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, on 7 April 1908. Her family relocated to Los Angeles when she was 13. In 1971, she moved to Kansas City, where her sister lived.
Johnson cast her first vote in the 2016 election after John Trussell, an employee of the Kansas City Board of Election Commissioners, assisted her with registration. At the time, she attributed her longevity to “fried chicken and just a little jigger of wine.”
Mary Johnson passed away in Kansas City, Missouri, USA, on 12 January 2020, at the age of 111 years, 280 days.
