BIOGRAPHY

Mary Elizabeth Grant was born in Wayne County, North Carolina, United States, on 22 November 1891, to parents James Woodley (1870-1949) and Elizabeth (née Hinson) Williams (1871-1904). On 31 July 1907, she married Andrew Jackson Grant, who was 30 years her senior, and the couple would have ten children together, where she worked as a homemaker. She was an active member of the First Free Will Baptist Church in LaGrange.

On 7 May 2001, she was recognized and honored by Lenoir County Council on Aging as the oldest living resident of Lenoir County. She passed away at Lenoir Memorial Hospital in Kinston, Lenoir County, North Carolina, United States, on 2 April 2002, at the age of 110 years, 131 days.
