BIOGRAPHY

King was born in Angelina County, Texas, USA, on 3 July 1868, to parents John Alfred Crain (1832–1917) and Juda Crain (1829–1903). She had at least four siblings: Sarah Jane Riley (died 1914), Jacob, Emma Judy Kirkwood (1870–1974), and George.

Her younger sister, Emma Kirkwood, died in November 1974, aged 104. Kirkwood’s daughter, Gertrude Tapscott (1899–2005), lived to be 105, and her son, Charles Russell Kirkwood (1901–2003), lived to be 101.

King passed away in Hempstead, Texas, USA, on 12 December 1979, at the age of 111 years, 162 days.

RECOGNITION

At the time of death, she was the oldest (known) living person in the U.S. state of Texas, and the oldest documented person to ever die in Texas.
