BIOGRAPHY

Marjorie Kinne was born in Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent, England, United Kingdom on 1 August 1910. Her first job was at a fish shop when she was 14 years old. At some point, she got married and the couple eventually had three daughters: Myra, Cecile, and Denise. She moved to Haywards Heath after her husband Cecil retired. Her husband died in his 80s.

At the age of 108, she had six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. At the time, she attributed her longevity to a good diet, regular exercise, and great friends. Even at 108, she walked to the shops, attended church, and completed the crossword daily. Her granddaughter highlighted her lifelong focus on healthy eating. Kinne’s friends and caretakers admired her independence and active social life, noting that she remained remarkably self-sufficient and vibrant. At the time, her daughters were aged 83, 81, and 78, respectively.

Marjorie Kinne passed away in Haywards Heath, West Sussex, England, United Kingdom on 24 January 2022 at the age of 111 years, 176 days.

RECOGNITION

Following the passing of Gwendoline Frances (Sally) Blake (18 October 1909 – 12 January 2019) of Haywards Heath, she became the oldest (known) living person in West Sussex.

On 7 May 2021, at the age of 110 years, 279 days, she surpassed the final age of Jessamine (Jessie) Nicholls, becoming the oldest known person ever to have lived in West Sussex. She holds the title to this day.

Kinne’s age was verified by Dr. Andrew Holmes and Chris Law, and was validated by the ESO on 14 February 2021.

At the time of her passing, she was the third-oldest living person in the United Kingdom, following Ethel Caterham and Rose Eaton.
