BIOGRAPHY

Marie Ferracci was born in the commune of Renno in the Corse-du-Sud department of France on the island of Corsica, on 11 February 1908. She spent her childhood in her birthplace but later lived in Ajaccio, surrounded by her family. It was in this city that she studied at the École Normale in the late 1920s before becoming a teacher—a profession she pursued with dedication and passion. She was first assigned to Revinda and Arbori, then to Lozzi, where she taught from 1931 to 1937.

That same year, she married Joseph, also a teacher, who passed away in 1958. She then moved to Bonifacio, where she taught at a nursery school until 1953, before continuing her career at the old Pascal-Paoli school in Ajaccio. She had five children.

At the time of her death, she had eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Marie Ferracci passed away in Ajaccio, the capital and largest city of Corsica, on 17 August 2019, at the age of 111 years, 187 days.
