Marie-Claire Brissaud was born in the commune of Le Dorat in the Haute-Vienne department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in western France, on 12 March 1905. Her parents were Marie Joseph Charles Augustin Brissaud (1873–1955) and Yvonne Marie Gabrielle Le Favre. She had at least two older sisters, Marie Louise Alice Suzanne (1902–1986) and Marie Agnès Solange (1903–1994).
As a child, she was often in poor health and recalled being so frail that she stayed home from school on days with bad weather. Though she never married and had no children, Brissaud had many relatives in the Indre region. She worked in Paris as a speech therapist until her retirement in 1965. She drove her Renault 4 until the age of 94 and continued to walk briskly well into her 108th year. However, a fall that resulted in a fracture eventually confined her to a wheelchair and led to her move into a retirement home. After spending several years in a care facility in Montrichard, she moved to Montmorillon in 2013.
Marie-Claire Brissaud passed away in Montmorillon in the Vienne department of Nouvelle-Aquitaine, on 3 May 2016, at the age of 111 years, 52 days.
Brissaud’s age has been validated by the European Supercentenarian Organisation (ESO).
