Supercentenarian Profile

Marie Behenská

Born:

April 2, 1905
Blatná, South Bohemian Region

Died:

May 20, 2015
Plzeň, Plzeň Region

Marie Behenská was a Czech supercentenarian.

BIOGRAPHY

Marie Behenská was born in Blatná, South Bohemian Region, Czech Republic (then Austria-Hungary), on 2 April 1905. She was raised in a family of lawyers, and her husband was also part of the profession. However, she chose to dedicate her life primarily to her family. She had a daughter.

Sometime in her centenarian years, she suffered a fall and required medical attention. However, she refused to be carried up the stairs and insisted on walking by herself. The paramedic, while reviewing her documents, reportedly paused to organize the paperwork—and couldn’t believe she had been born in 1905. At the age of 109, she lived with her daughter, Marie Štěpáníková. Marie shared that Behenská preferred semolina porridge for breakfast and enjoyed dairy products in the evening.

Marie Behenská passed away in Plzeň, Plzeň Region, on 20 May 2015, at the age of 110 years, 48 days. She was survived by her daughter, two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

RECOGNITION

Following the passing of 109-year-old Vlastimila Češková (2 March 1905 – 7 January 2015), she became the oldest living person in Czech Republic. Upon her own passing, she was succeeded by Bedřiška Köhlerová (1 July 1907 – 19 June 2016).

In April 2015, she celebrated her 110th birthday, becoming the first person in the country to reach supercentenarian status since Emilie Doležalová in 2004, and only the third person ever to do so.

Her age has not been validated.
