BIOGRAPHY

María Nieves Rivera Cruz was born in the Tejas neighborhood of the municipality of Humacao, Puerto Rico, on 3 January 1904 (claimed 10 October 1902). Her parents were Petronila Rivera and Pablo Cruz. She married Gerónimo De León, and together they raised five children: Santos, María Providencia, Julio, María Esperanza, and Clara Hermas. By 2013, their family had grown to include twelve grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.

According to her family, she was a humble and hardworking woman, deeply devoted to serving others. She was an exemplary daughter, a loving wife, and a truly remarkable mother.

María Nieves Rivera Cruz passed away in Tejas, Las Piedras, on 6 February 2015, at the age of 111 years, 34 days.
