BIOGRAPHY

Mochi was born in Colmurano, Italy on 1 January 1914. She worked as a kindergarten cook. At some point, she donated her home to the local government for use as a school building.

Mochi resided in a nursing home in Urbisaglia since the age of 106. In late 2020, she became one of the oldest documented survivors of COVID-19, overcoming the illness by December 13th. She continued to celebrate life, marking her 107th birthday in January 2021. Unfortunately, COVID-19 struck again around her 109th birthday in January 2023.

Maria Mochi passed away in Urbisaglia, Marche, Italy, on 7 September 2024, at the age of 110 years, 250 days.

RECOGNITION

On 17 November 2023, following the passing of 113-year-old Domenica Ercolani, she became the oldest known living person in the region of Marche.

Her age was verified by Paolo Scarabaggio, and validated by the European Supercentenarian Organisation (ESO) on 9 June 2024.

Upon her passing, Maria Camilli (born 26 June 1915) of Porto San Giorgio succeeded her as the oldest living person in Marche.
