BIOGRAPHY

Maria Fiorentino was born in Sorrento, Naples, Campania, Italy, on 27 February 1906. She began embroidering at the age of eight, later crafting blankets and sheets for prestigious companies such as Gallone, Gargiulo, and Jannuzzi, as well as for VIP guests at luxury hotels in Sorrento.

At some point, she married and went on to have three children: Angela, Giovanni, and Franco.

When asked about the secret to her longevity, she credited a healthy diet—without ever giving up a glass of wine—and the love of her three children and six grandchildren. At the age of 110, she had a living brother, Guglielmo, aged 95.

Maria Fiorentino passed away in Sorrento, on 4 March 2016, at the age of 110 years, 6 days.

RECOGNITION

Fiorentino’s age was verified by Paolo Scarabaggio and validated by the European Supercentenarian Organisation (ESO) on 27 June 2021.
