BIOGRAPHY

María del Amparo Porris Herrero was born in the town of Gáname in the municipality of Bermillo de Sayago in Castile and León, Spain, on 21 May 1906. Her parents were José Porris and María Herrero Diego. On 10 November 1907, when Amparo was just a year and a half old, her mother, María Herrero Diego (25), and her infant brother, Pedro Porris Herrero, arrived in Argentina aboard the ship Highland Watch. Her father had arrived shortly before them. Amparo was one of twelve children, though six of her siblings died young.

The family initially settled in the rural area of Ingeniero Thompson in Buenos Aires Province. They later moved to a field in what is now Colonia 17, before finally settling in Guaminí in 1954. Amparo remained there until the final years of her life, when she moved to a nursing home in Carhué.

She married Juan Hernández, and together they had three children: Juan José and Roberto Luis (both of whom she outlived), and Nilda Amparo. Each of her children gave her three grandchildren, for a total of nine.

At the age of 110, she had one surviving sister, María, aged 97.

María del Amparo Porris Herrero passed away in Carhué, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina, on 14 January 2017, at the age of 110 years, 238 days.
