BIOGRAPHY

Marguerite Duperray was born in the commune of Tarare in the Rhône department in eastern France, on 12 February 1906. Her parents were Jean Marius Duperray (1875–1915) and Marie Antoinette Duperray (1877–1969).

She began working in embroidery at the age of 13 at Cornelly. She also worked cutting curtains. An only child, she faced a profound loss early in life—her father died in the war in 1915, a tragedy she reportedly learned about on the day of her First Communion.

After dedicating her working life to embroidery, she later assisted her godson and his wife in selling fruit and vegetables at the market in Tarare, a role she continued until around the year 2000.

Marguerite Duperray passed away in the commune of Saint-Clément-sur-Valsonne in the Rhône department in eastern France, on 27 January 2018, at the age of 111 years, 349 days.
