Margret Vaughn was born in Virginia, USA, on 4 May 1916. She worked as an elevator operator for the New York City public school system and was also a longtime seamstress.
Her 110th birthday was celebrated at the Retirement Community Center where she lived, alongside fellow resident and centenarian Janie Saunders, who was turning 101. The two had moved to the center in the same year, 1974. During her earlier years at the center, she was an active participant in classes, outings, and community activities. However, by the age of 110, mobility limitations had left her homebound, and she relied on assistance from caregivers.
