Luise Margarethe (Margarete) Staack was a German supercentenarian.

BIOGRAPHY

Margarete Staack was born in Leipzig, Saxony, Germany, on 24 April 1903. She married her husband, Heinrich, on 5 July 1930, and they had one daughter, Ingrid, who died at the age of 77. Her husband was killed on the Eastern Front during World War II. She never remarried and devoted her life to raising her daughter.

She moved into the retirement home at Auensee in 2003. When she was 108, an occupational therapist accompanied her to the Monument to the Battle of the Nations. She had first visited the site as a ten-year-old girl, attending its inauguration in 1913. By the age of 110, she had two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Margarete Staack passed away in Leipzig, on 7 May 2013, at the age of 110 years, 13 days.

RECOGNITION

Her age was validated by the European Supercentenarian Organisation (ESO) on 8 March 2020.
