Margaret Whitlock was born in Seattle, Washington, USA, on 5 March 1906. The daughter of Scottish immigrants, she grew up in West Seattle. She met her husband, Victor, while attending the University of Washington, and together they raised three children. Throughout her life, she held many roles—teacher, air raid warden, and homemaker. She registered to vote in 1934 at the age of 28. She continued to vote in elections throughout her life, and in November 2016, at the age of 110, she reportedly cast her ballot in the U.S. Presidential election.
Margaret Whitlock passed away in Seattle, on 5 March 2019, on her 113th birthday.
On 8 May 2017, following the passing of 112-year-old Molly Schmidt, she became the oldest living person in the U.S. state of Washington, at the age of 111 years, 64 days. Upon her own passing, she was succeeded by Ruth Apilado.
She passed away on her 113th birthday, making her the oldest person at the time to die on their birthday—a distinction she shared with several other supercentenarians who died before her, including Astrid Zachrison, Benilda Ospino Altamar, and Mathilde Lartigue, as well as others who have passed away since.
At the time of her passing, she was the second-oldest person ever to have died in Washington, after Emma Otis. Ruth Apilado later surpassed Whitlock’s final age.
Whitlock’s age was validated by the GRG on 7 February 2019.
