Marcelle Gourdinet was born in the commune of Crépy-en-Valois in the Oise department in northern France, on 15 November 1905. While working in Paris one evening in 1930, she met Gabriel, who would later become her husband. They initially lived in Paris, where they both worked for “Dressoir,” a renowned shoemaker. They were later transferred to Calais, where their daughter, Ginette, was born in 1932. Following the path set by the shoemaker, the couple moved several times — first to Troyes, then Marseille, Nevers, Grenoble, and Chambéry — while working for the Bata company.
After retiring, they settled first in Lyon and later in Bourgoin-Jallieu. Gabriel passed away in 1994. On 10 September 2007, at the age of 101, she moved into the Jean-Moulin residence in Bourgoin-Jallieu.
Marcelle Gourdinet passed away in Bourgoin-Jallieu, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, on 13 February 2016, at the age of 110 years, 90 days. She was survived by her daughter, Ginette Gourdinet, as well as two grandchildren, Philippe and Gilbert, and two great-grandchildren, Corentin and Florian.
Her age was validated by the European Supercentenarian Organisation. This validation is yet to be recognized by LongeviQuest.
