BIOGRAPHY

Manoel de Sousa Lima was born in Várzea Alegre, Quixeré, Ceara, Brazil on 15 August 1912, to parents Francisco Honorato de Lima and Maria Inacia de Jesus, and was baptized three days later. His great-grandfather, Joaquim Rufino da Silva Maia (known as Quinco Honorato) was a founding figure in the town of Várzea Alegre.

On 10 January 1933, he married Raimunda Josina Moreira (17 May 1910 – 25 November 2012). Their marriage lasted for nearly 80 years, until Raimunda’s death in 2012 at the age of 102.

At the time of his 110th birthday in 2022, he still walked with the help of a cane, and maintained his independence.

Manoel de Sousa Lima passed away in Quixeré, Ceará, Brazil, on 28 October 2022, at the age of 110 years, 74 days.

RECOGNITION

His age was verified by Gabriel Ainsworth, Stefan Maglov and James Roberts, and validated by LongeviQuest on 9 July 2023. He was previously listed as a pending validation by the Latin American Supercentenarians (LAS).
