Margaret “Madge” Sandiford was a British supercentenarian.

BIOGRAPHY

Madge Sandiford was born in Bootle, Merseyside, England, on 24 March 1903. She grew up in Bootle and attended St James’ Select School, leaving at just 14 to deliver bread and cakes for seven shillings and sixpence a week. She was employed by Blackledge’s Bakery in Litherland.

Married twice, she had a son but outlived them all. She credited her long life to abstaining from alcohol. After spending most of her life in Bootle, Madge moved to Springfield Court Nursing Home in Aughton at around the age of 100.

Madge Sandiford passed away in Aughton, Lancashire, England, on 6 February 2014, at the age of 110 years, 319 days.

RECOGNITION

Following the passing of 109-year-old Jane Baldwin (25 August 1902 – 8 September 2011) of Catforth, she became the oldest known living person in Lancashire. Upon her own passing, she was succeeded by Hilda Parkinson.

Sandiford’s age was verified by Dr. Andrew Holmes and Melissa Page, and was validated by the ESO on 8 April 2020.
