BIOGRAPHY

Domenino was born in Cambiano, Piedmont, Italy, on 28 June 1909. Due to her father finding employment in Carmagnola as a railway toll collector, she, with her family, moved there at an early age. As a young woman, she worked as a seamstress.

Domenino married her husband, Virginio Salpestre, and thereafter became a housewife, raising their two sons, Aldo and Carlo, born in 1935 and 1936 respectively. After the end of World War II, the family relocated to Monteu Roero, a Piedmont municipality, later settling in the city of Turin. Domenino was widowed in 1991.

Living independently until 2008, Domenino then moved into a nursing home in Ceresole Alba, Piedmont. At the age of 110, she was able to walk short distances with assistance.

Domenino died on 8 November 2019 at the age of 110 years, 133 days.

RECOGNITION

At the time of her death, Domenino was Piedmont’s second-oldest resident after Erminia Bianchini (1908 – 2020).

Domenino’s age was verified by Alessandro Delucchi, Paolo Scarabaggio, and Davide Zarino, and was validated by the ESO on 16 August 2024.
