BIOGRAPHY

Cordier was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, on 12 April 1903, to parents George and Cora Smith. She and her two older brothers walked to and from a one-room schoolhouse for their education. The family lived in Philadelphia. Their social life centered around their church and family.

In 1920, after graduating from high school, she married Lee Garfield Cordier, a pharmaceutical chemist and teacher at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science (now the University of the Sciences). He also coached tennis and basketball. Their home in Lansdowne, Pennsylvania, featured a tennis court in the backyard, and one of their sons, Ray, even competed in the Davis Cup Tennis Tournament. Mabel stayed home to raise their three children: Lee, Ray, and Reid.

After her husband passed away in 1960, she moved into the Collingswood home of her son Ray and his wife, where she helped raise their four children. Mabel never learned to drive. In 2000, she moved to Collingswood Manor.

She was survived by two children (Ray and Reid), eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
