BIOGRAPHY

Luz María Quesada García was born in (Santa Ana de) Coro, Falcón, Venezuela, on 8 January 1916, daughter of Rafael Quesada and Juana Inocencia García. At some point, she married Orlando Pelayo Granadillo (born 1923). Around the time they married in the mid-1940s, her husband began working at the Shell company in Cardón. He later found employment at Cervecería Regional and relocated to Punto Fijo. The couple had five children: Ana Inocencia (1951), Orlando Antonio (1952), Rubén Darío (1954), Pedro Vicente ‘Chente’ (1956), and Lope Rafael (1958). At some point, the family moved to Maracay.

While in Maracay, her husband oversaw several important projects, including the construction of the new headquarters for the ‘Agustín Codazzi’ school, formerly the Federal School of the city and the only high school in Aragua to graduate students before 1958. At home, Luz María dedicated herself to the education of their family. In 1964, her husband served as one of the construction supervisors for the Acarigua-Araure Central Hospital. That same year, he was involved in the reconstruction of the Araure church. He passed away in Araure on 2 June 1990.
