Luigia (Gigia) Zamparo-Corona was an Italian supercentenarian.

BIOGRAPHY

Luigia Zamparo was born in Manzano, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy, on 29 April 1903. At a young age, she traveled to Palermo to visit her married sister, who lived there, and met the painter Vittorio Corona, a friend of her brother-in-law. After returning to Friuli, she began an animated correspondence with him, exchanging letters inspired by Futurism and embellished with pieces of fabric.

In 1925, she married Vittorio in Manzano; together they had six children. The couple then moved to Palermo, where they founded a successful manufacturing business. She became part of a close-knit and accomplished circle of Sicilian Futurists. Together with her husband, she established a shared art studio titled “Vittorio and Gigia Corona, Futurist Painters.” Within this context, Gigia designed and produced numerous refined cushions, tapestries, and decorative panels. In 1927, her works were shown at the First National Exhibition of Futurist Art in Palermo.

In 1934, the family relocated several times, living in Vibo Valentia, then Merano, Acqui Terme, and finally settling in Rome. Throughout these moves, she continued to pursue her artistic vision, specializing in tapestries that increasingly explored new expressive directions through evocative forms and colors. Endowed with a strong temperament and great determination, she united technical skill with aesthetic experimentation. Geometric shapes and the propeller motif were among the themes she held most dear.

Luigia Zamparo passed away in Rome, on 12 December 2013, at the age of 110 years, 227 days.
