BIOGRAPHY

Hodges was born in Cambria, Williamson County, Illinois, USA, on 12 April 1905, to parents John and Myrtle Howell. She had one brother, Joel Howell and two sisters, Mildred Leigh and Dexter Wade.

On 30 March 1923, shortly before her 18th birthday, she married John Hodges in Belleville, Illinois. The couple had two children: John Mitchel Hodges (1924–2002) and Betty Kaebel. Her husband passed away in 1978. She was a member of First Christian Church in Pekin, Illinois, for over 60 years.

In 2014, at the age of 109, she traveled to Madison, Wisconsin, to watch her great-grandson march in the Bob Jones Marching Band. Her hobbies included playing bridge and line dancing.

Hodges passed away at Hallmark House Nursing Center in Pekin, Illinois, USA, at 6 AM on 23 April 2016, at the age of 111 years, 11 days. She was survived by her daughter, four grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 20 great-great-grandchildren.

RECOGNITION

At the time of death, she was the second-oldest (known) living person in the U.S. state of Illinois, behind Mildred Salk.
