BIOGRAPHY

Louise-Anna Turcotte was born in Saint-Esprit, Quebec, Canada, on 5 September 1905. She was the second of ten children born to parents Joseph Turcotte (1879–1936) and Louisa Coitou (1885–1971). She spent much of her childhood with her grandmother, who cared for her to give her parents a much-needed respite.

On 30 June 1926, she married Alcidas Hetu (1899–1962) in Saint-Esprit, and the couple had three daughters: Marielle, Micheline, and Jeannine. Her first husband passed away in June 1962. Three years later, on 21 August 1965, she married Émilien Brouillette (1911–1985), a farmer, widower, and father of seven. When her second husband died in 1985, she remained close to his children. In 2005, her eldest daughter, Marielle, passed away from cancer.

Even at the age of 105, she continued to enjoy crafts such as knitting and crocheting. Twice a week, she played bingo at her retirement home in Saint-Roch-de-l’Achigan.

Louise-Anna Turcotte passed away in Saint-Lin–Laurentides, Quebec, on 12 November 2016, at the age of 111 years, 68 days. She was survived by her three daughters, and four grandchildren.
