Lillian Stubbs was born in Hertford, North Carolina, USA, on 30 April 1906. Stubbs grew up on a farm alongside her two brothers and seven sisters.
In 1926, she married Irving Prentiss Stubbs (1908–1981), and the couple remained together until his passing in 1981. She moved from her Norfolk home to Williamsburg Landing in 1993.
Her son, Irving Stubbs, attributed her longevity to her deep love, strong faith in God, and enduring sense of humor.
At the age of 110, she had seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Stubbs passed away in Williamsburg, Virginia, USA, on 16 June 2018, at the age of 112 years, 47 days.
On 15 June 2017, following the passing of 111-year-old Ruth Blackman, she became the oldest known living person in the U.S. state of Virginia. Upon her own passing, she was succeeded by Avicia Thorpe.
Stubbs’ age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) on 4 May 2018.
