BIOGRAPHY

Wetherald was born in Dawn Mills, Ontario, Canada, on 23 September 1911, to parents LeRoy Bryan Holmes (born 1888) and Estella Gladys Terhune (born 1891). She had at least five younger siblings, including Thelma Bernice (born 1914), Edna (born 1918), and Jean Law.

On 23 March 1932, she married Murry Joseph Wetherald (1908–1986). The couple had one daughter, Gail MacDonald. In 1953, the family moved from Dresden, Ontario to 100 Mile House, British Columbia. They purchased a partnership in a logging and sawmill business, with Leato taking on the role of bookkeeper. In 1958, the family moved to Kamloops, where she worked as a bookkeeper at a law firm for over two decades.

At the age of 101, she moved from Kamloops to Vancouver to be closer to her family. She resided at Shannon Oaks retirement community until she was 107, when she moved to the Royal Arch Home.

Wetherald passed away in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, on 23 January 2022, at the age of 110 years, 122 days. She was survived by her daughter, two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and her younger sister, Jean.
