BIOGRAPHY

Gibson was born in Seneca Township, Monroe County, Ohio, USA, on 17 January 1905, to parents Silas Wellington Carpenter (1873–1963) and Charlotte Louise Dailey (1872–1972). She had four siblings, including Mamie Olive Starr (1893–1989), Elza Raymond Carpenter (1898–1990), and Edson Joseph Carpenter (1909– 2003). Her mother died at the age of 100.

As a young woman, she married James Chancy Carpenter (1901–1944). The couple had three children: Iona Bundy (1924–1976), Ray Dempsey Carpenter (1926–1927), and Geneva Bewley. The family moved to Quaker City in 1940. She worked at the local cigar factory, Broughton’s Dairy, and the Quaker City Post Office. Her first husband died at the age of 42. Eventually, she remarried Clyde Herbert Gibson (1902–1995).

Laura Gibson passed away at Emerald Pointe in Barnesville, Belmont County, Ohio, USA, on 28 January 2015, aged 110 years, 11 days. She was survived by four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.
