Komitsu Yano [Japanese: 矢野こみつ] was a Japanese supercentenarian.
Komitsu Yano (矢野こみつ) was born in Japan on November 4, 1891. She had two sons, four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
Her favorite food was koshian (smooth red bean paste). After moving into a nursing home, she especially looked forward to visits from her family.
On September 11, 2002, she was visited by the mayor of Kobe City, who congratulated her as the oldest living person in the city at the time. When asked about the secret to her longevity, she replied, “Falling in love and eating well,” and added that she had managed her health by drinking wine until the age of 80.
Three days later, on September 14, 2002, Yano passed away of natural causes in Kita Ward, Kobe, Hyōgo Prefecture, at the age of 110 years and 314 days. At the time of her death, she was among the ten oldest living people in Japan and was the third-oldest in Hyōgo Prefecture, behind Tsuru Misawa and Tadanosuke Hashimoto.
Her age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group and subsequently recognized by LongeviQuest.
